Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday morning as it approaches Florida’s Gulf Coast. A state of emergency has been declared for 25 counties in the Panhandle and Big Bend regions. The storm could bring 3 to 6 inches of rain, with isolated areas seeing up to 10 inches, along with significant flooding, power outages, and storm surges. Emergency teams, including the National Guard, are actively preparing for landfall.
The Panhandle’s already saturated ground from recent rainfall increases the risk of severe flooding and infrastructure damage. Utilities are coordinating with state emergency managers to prepare for potential impacts, while residents are urged to finalize evacuation plans and stock up on supplies.
