Duke Energy has upgraded its Trenton, Florida, battery storage facility into a microgrid, providing up to four hours of backup power for 1,500 customers during outages. Initially built in 2022 for energy storage and grid demand management, the facility now also enhances storm resilience by operating independently from the main grid when needed.
This is Duke Energy's second microgrid in Florida, following one in Micanopy. The utility now operates six battery storage sites statewide, focusing on reducing downtime in hurricane-prone areas. These projects reflect a strategic push to modernize energy infrastructure and improve reliability for customers.
