Severe thunderstorms in Greater Cincinnati initially left over 180,000 Duke Energy customers without power, with 94,000 still affected as of Wednesday afternoon. Infrastructure damage, including fallen trees and broken poles, is delaying restoration efforts. Duke Energy plans to update its outage map with estimated restoration times by 7 p.m. Wednesday, though not all areas will receive immediate updates due to the scale of the damage.
To speed up restoration, Duke Energy has deployed 1,000 additional line workers from Indiana and North Carolina. Hamilton County is the most impacted, with nearly 49,000 customers still without power.
Why it matters: The operational and financial costs of these events could influence future investment in grid modernization and impact customer satisfaction metrics.
